Events and Festivals

Havana is home to numerous well-known international gatherings, festivals and competitions.  Throughout the year, there are plenty of opportunities to attend and participate.  Below is a list of some of the most popular events, but please let us know if you have another area of interest that you would like us to arrange for.

Feria Internacional de Artesanias Hundreds of stands sell everything from furniture, to jewelry and clothing – most of it locally made by Cuban artists. Annually in December
International Ballet Festival of Havana See Cuba as it shows off its quality ballet at this annual festival. Annually in October
Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano (Havana Film Festival) Cinema festival promoting the films of latinamerican filmmakers. Annually in December
Festival del Habanos This ever growing festival attracts cigar lovers from all over the world to come and learn about, and, of course taste, the renowned Cuban brands including Montecristo, Partagas, Romeo y Julieta and, the crown jewel, Cohiba. The festival offers visits to cigar factories and tobacco plantations where seminars, rolling demonstrations and tastings are available. Annually in February/March //
International Ernest Hemingway Billfishing Tournament A celebration of one of the author’s great passions, this competition is Cuba’s marquee fishing event. This world class event is over 65 years in the making and attracts competitors from over 30 countries. Annually in May/June
May Day Celebrations Regardless of your political leanings, May Day offers a glimpse into Cuba’s society, culture and politics as they celebrate the working class and express their national pride, complete with marches and parades, performances, and speeches by local leaders. Annually, May 1st
Havana International Jazz Festival Come see and hear and visit with world renowned jazz musicians as well as talented locals at this annual event celebrating this unique musical form. Annually in January
Carnival While not as well known as it’s Brazilian cousin, Havana’s Carnival is a spectacle to be seen. Filled with parades, elaborate costumes, music and dance, this pre-lent event is a wonderful exhibition of the vibrant spirit of Cuba. Annually, varies based on holiday
Baseball Baseball, or pelota, is not a pastime, but a passion on the island. Cuba is home to some of the best players in the world, many of whom have found success in the MLB. Annually. Cuban National Series Nov-April Cuban Super Series May- July
Marabana Marathon This half marathon route winds through the iconic areas of Old Havana, Central Havana, and Vedado. The competition is open to all racers from elite competitors to leisure runners and the disabled and offers a variety of distance options, including full-marathon (2 laps), half-marathon, as well as 5, 10 and 15km. Annually, 3rd Sunday in November //
